Useful Information

Established in 2006, Woodlands Retreats is a family business which owes its roots to our farming heritage in which we owned several dilapidated farmhouses and cottages. Sat derelict for many years, the decision was made to renovate each of our own five properties and the Upper Woodlands farm site (Lower Hedge Farm, Woodlands Farmhouse, Swallow’s Orchard, Apple Cottage & The Cider Barn) converting them into luxurious properties to create a new part of the business and diversify from the often turbulent world of modern agriculture. We still own and operate our farm of some 650 acres which is mostly arable with some sheep, so we're usually quite busy!

This process involved 18 years of building work and investment to produce the results you see today which we are very proud of and hope you love too.

The properties that we own are located very close to the Glastonbury Festival site and we are lucky enough to have some land surrounding Lower Hedge Farm which has over the years been used for car parking for the event. We decided that given our proximity to the festival site (it’s a 15 min walk) we should set up and run a luxury campsite for revellers that prefer to avoid any excess mud, so that’s exactly what we did! 2013 saw the birth of our festival campsite in which we entertained 100 guests and with the cooperation of the festival organisers, we have subsequently run our campsite each year after, growing in size for each festival.

As part of our development, 2014 saw the start of a new strand of the business managing properties which belong to other people - these are the properties you will see here other than our own; Smokeham Farm, Rock Farm, Higher Burrow Farm, Portman House & Little Cheriton House. We manage all aspects of these properties from cleaning to booking and all reservations for these properties will ultimately be chanelled through us.

We hope you like the look of our properties. If you have any questions about us or what we do, please ask!
